Healthy Homemade Chocolates Made With Coconut Oil

There are tons of benefits that virgin coconut oil possess and many people that have just found out about this ‘miracle oil’ may be interested in not only taking it daily but in having some healthy snack made out of it.

Coconut oil tastes great in foods – cereals, oatmeal, smoothies; in fact, you can use coconut oil in more foods than you can imagine. But this post is not about that. It’s for those who have a sweet tooth but still want something tasty without the tag of ‘unhealthy’ attached to it. 


“Guilt-free” Chocolate Slabs

Pure dark cocoa powder (unsweetened)
1/3cup of virgin (cold-pressed) coconut oil
Sweetener, preferably powdered Stevia
½ teaspoon of your preferred flavouring (vanilla, almond, or mint)
Cherries, nuts, desiccated coconut, or ginger

(For a firmer textured chocolate slab, you can use less than 1/3 cup of coconut oil)

Preparation time
10 minutes maximum

Preparation Items
Mixing bowl
Spatula or wooden spoon
Ice tray

Mix the cocoa powder, coconut oil, and sweetener in a bowl. Ensure you mix thoroughly (de-lump) till all lumps disappear and you have a nice smooth paste.

Add your desired flavouring and stir thoroughly.

Line the ice tray with chopped maraschino cherries, and chopped nuts (or whatever you wish). Pour your coconut oil/cocoa mix over this base layer, no more than ½ inch thick.

Place the tray in the fridge and store there until it solidifies. This shouldn’t take more than half an hour. Once it has become a solid block, you can slice them into squares (while still in the ice tray). Use a warm knife if it’s a bit difficult to cut through.

Alternatively, you can use an ice cube tray. With this, you can ‘pop’ out each chocolate whenever you feel like popping one into your mouth.

Ensure you keep in the refrigerator until needed or else they’ll start to melt at room temperature.
